AirStudent wins at Entrepreneurship Intervarsity
Congratulations are in order as one of the startups in our incubation program has been announced as the Regional Winner in the Existing Business - General Category of the 2nd annual national Entrepreneurship Intervarsity.

THE COMPETITION
AirStudent is taking part in the 2nd annual national Entrepreneurship Intervarsity hosted by EDHE (Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education) and is supported by USAf. The purpose of the competition is to identify high impact entrepreneurs in South African universities and let them showcase their talents on a grand stage. The competition consists of four categories namely New Business Idea, Existing Social Impact Business, Existing Tech Business, and Existing General Startup (of which AirStudent falls under).
The competition timeline is divided into four stages with AirStudent easily passing through Stage 1, winning at UCT during Stage 2, and being awarded the winner in their category in Stage 3. This win has allowed them to progress to stage 4 where AirStudent will go on to represent the Western Cape in the Nationals. At the Nationals they will compete for Student-run Startup of the Year. The Nationals will be held in November and the EDHE is hopeful that the event will take place in person in Pretoria.
HOW DOES THIS WIN CONTRIBUTE TOWARD AIRSTUDENT’S NEXT STEPS
AirStudent can use the EDHE platform to reach more of their customer base (this being students), but moreover, this platform will play a pivotal role in reaching important stakeholders for AirStudent’s plan for a coordinated phased return of students on to university campuses. AirStudent’s aim is to limit student contact with external parties during their return to universities and residences by providing a tailored travel solution in collaboration with their aviation and bus partners. This will ensure students travel only with other students from their own university and also allow them to save by group booking with all the other students returning to campus. The EDHE platform brings together the universities of South Africa who can now interact more closely with the AirStudent solution.
