Meet SnapMenu

SnapMenu brings traditional printed menus online and allows restaurants and customers to order and pay for their food, directly from their mobile devices. Customers love us because we remove a bunch of waiting from the dining experience, and restaurateurs love us because we make them more money. By using mature e-commerce techniques, we build menus that sell more of the higher-yielding menu items, improving the bottom line for restaurants.

MEET THE TEAM

Shai Unterslak is a software engineer and startup founder from Cape Town, South Africa. For the past 2 years, he’s been building tech teams and products for hundreds of thousands of users as the Director of Dado. He’s obsessed with content, building communities, and making businesses more money. He’s currently building a community of restaurateurs who are tired of thin margins and inefficiency. 

Max Tyrrell is an entrepreneur with a strong technical focus. During his second and third year as a BSc Mathematics & Computer Science student, he hired four full-time software engineer employees at the development agency he founded, Dado. Dado continues to grow and presently serves international clients with hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue. He's now building the future of in-restaurant experience as CTO @ SnapMenu.

Gabriel Stein is a multiple-time startup founder that is passionate about building tech products with a superior user experience. He is the founder and director of Next Step Digital, a design-led technology company that builds software for international as well as local brands. He is using his experience in managing tech teams and building products to co-found SnapMenu, a product aimed at giving restaurant customers the best ordering experience whilst helping restaurants boost their sales.

THE PROBLEM BEING SOLVED

Restaurant menus suck at maximizing profits. Very few restaurants can afford specialist menu engineers to put the right menu items in the right positions, in the right format. Decades of behavioural economics and user experience learnings are currently inaccessible and confusing to the average restaurateur. We’re building these learnings into our core technology so that every restaurant can have the perfect menu, and every customer can have the perfect in-restaurant experience.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WHY THE PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE SOLVED

Because restaurant margins are incredibly low and they’re leaving much-needed money on the table. If we can make every single restaurant order even a tiny bit more profitable, we can change the lives of hundreds of thousands of restaurateurs and their families across the globe.

OPPORTUNITIES COVID-19 PROVIDED

Due to the economical restraints, COVID-19 has brought on many industries, businesses have been forced to look at technological innovation to help them survive during this period and going forward. The restaurant industry has been one of the industries that has been put under severe pressure and that's when we saw the opportunity to help them. Restaurants run on slim profit margins and during COVID-19, they were making no money at all. That's what made us think of a contactless menu that helps restaurants boost their sales.

ASPIRATIONS FOR INCUBATION PERIOD AT FSAT LABS

We want to get SnapMenu to product/market fit, have a proven case-study that shows genuine 20%+ AOV benefits of our product, and have multiple restaurants as enthusiastic customers, within the next 3 months. We then want to have started scaling in earnest, and be rapidly acquiring restaurant customers as our primary focus with around 40 restaurants using and enjoying strong value from our product by the end of 6 months from now.
