Meet My Journey 2 Freedom
My Journey 2 Freedom is a registered Financial Services Provider that specializes in the creation of Intentional Financial Wellness through the process of Lifestyle Financial Planning & Coaching. We work with people to think about and plan their money and their life. Our passion is to work with those we call change-makers, the ones who are up to something inspiring, with a vision to contribute something of value that will change the world in some way.
We’re known for our independent, disruptive thinking that challenges the status quo and allows us to provide a neutral, fee-only, and solutions-agnostic service that we can deliver to individuals, couples, and families as well as businesses who believe that taking care of their employees’ financial well-being through empowering financial education is part of their change-making mission and vision.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Mary J Fourie is the founder of My Journey 2 Freedom, which was founded in May 2017. Even though the business currently consists only of Mary, she collaborates with others along the way. Mary’s vision to expand the business and create employment opportunities in 2021.
Her background has always involved customer service, as she’s worked in various sectors including clothing retail, online gaming, and now financial services.
“I am guided by my values of being connected to the core of who I am, those who form my community and a higher power, contributing something of value that will change the world in some way and taking responsibility for myself as well as being aware of my responsibility to others.” It is Mary’s belief that by living aligned to these values she is able to create a life that feels free, purposeful, and fulfilling.
It is this philosophy that drives the work Mary does with her clients, the belief that by aligning how one earns and spends money with one’s values it is possible to create a life that feels free, purposeful, and fulfilling.

THE PROBLEM BEING SOLVED
Generally, My Journey 2 Freedom exists to help the people we call change-makers, shift from feeling overwhelmed by their responsibilities, fears, and uncertainty to feeling confident that they have a plan for their money and life, are in control and know what small steps to take to create the future that they want for themselves, those they love and to fulfill their purpose.
Through the incubation program with FSAT Labs Cape Town, we are specifically focused on solving the problem that people who work in financial services are not financially well, despite working in the industry and having more access to financial information than the average consumer.
THE IMPORTANCE OF WHY THE PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE SOLVED
It is important that those who work in financial services are leaders in being financially well, living what they promote through their work. The result of not being financially well is that they are more stressed, engagement with their work is negatively impacted and they present a risk to the business in terms of their productivity, loyalty to the company, and the temptation to commit fraud.
OPPORTUNITIES COVID-19 PROVIDED
2020 has been a year filled with opportunity! COVID-19 and the lockdowns coincided with me going into my own period of hibernation following the birth of my son on 1 May 2020. Getting back to work and creating a new balance of hours spent on work and family felt like a rebirth for me. This year, therefore, provided me the opportunity to slow down, pause, reflect on my life’s journey thus far, then recreate it with fresh eyes. My vision for scaling My Journey 2 Freedom to take the work I do to more people was born out of this process. Discovering the FSAT Labs incubation program was a synchronistic opportunity that felt aligned with where I was at, and exactly what I needed.
ASPIRATIONS FOR INCUBATION PERIOD AT FSAT LABS
My vision is to build the first version of the digital My Journey 2 Freedom platform and have at least three committed customers and a minimum of 50 engaged users enrolled in our flagship Intentional Financial Wellness Programme whilst testing the system. I would love to have employed my first employee as well, and be on track to reach R1 million in revenue for the 2021/2022 financial year.
